the public, this most remarkable feat
was performed, and when Mrs. Clark
awoke aha discovered her loss. That
was at o'clock, but the police were
not notified of the robbery until shortly
afternoon. John A. Clark, Jr., appeared
at the station and related the story of
the robbery to Capt Grltsmaeher. The
ease was then placed in the handa of
Captain of Detectives Simmons, who Is l
now investigating. j

Every one connected with the diamond
robbery positively refused to talk of ;
the matter for publication. When asked
by The Journal to make a statement,
John A. Clark refused point blank. I
reported the robbery to the police, with
Instructions that nothing should be j
given out to the newspapers," he said. ,
"and I will not discuss the case now."
Mrs. Clark could not be located. At
the Vendome Hotel, In room 8 of which
the robbery Is said to have occurred,
nothing concerning the loss of the1
l jewels could be ascertained. Every ene
