town went to work In a frantic endeavor
to construct a temporary channel. After
working all rrlght their efforts bore fruit
and it Is now thought that unless the
shifting debris chokes. the new channel
danger from the flood has been averted.
It Is now known that persons lost
their lives. It Is the general belief that
this total, will be swelled by three or
four additional names.
The work of taking out the bodies Is
going, slowly forward, but tt Is certain
that more than -two -thirds of the bodies
of those who lost their lives wUl never

tising schemes ever carried tnit in the
state.
A wagon is to be equipped for trav
elingwith bows and sheet, and .cook
ing outfit complete throughout A "mess
kit" or "grub box" la to be hinged' on
the rear endgate, Jusuas a stockman's
wagon in me rouna-up.
On either side of the sheet, in great
black letters, the legend "Oregon Lally
Journal Wagon" Will appear, followed
by the prices of the paper, .
A team of light horses will be pur
chased and the wagon will be furnished
with the best grade or cameras fur tak
ing landscape and stock views, farms,
towns and photographs of animals.
Every minute detail of the preparation
hns been arranged, eVen to the pewter
spoons for the correspondent and the
picket ropes for the horses. -
This wagon will itave Shaniko in
charge of Paul DeLaney as correspond
