building of a new ferry boat for Al
bina to run from the foot of Russell
street The association Is In favor of
constructing the new boat- with a steel
hull, as the present boat, the steamer
W. 8. Mason, Is Inadequate to handle the
fast-Increasing traffic. The proposed
new vessel will cost about 130.000.
The Sellwood Board of Trade will hold
Its meeting In Firemen's Hall. The prin
cipal topic to come before the meeting
will be the establishing of a ferry be
tween Sellwood snd the West Side. A
bill for that purpose has been before
the State Legislature, but no action has
been taken because It was seJd that the
residents of Sellwood did not do enough
uralna. The meeting tonight will be
for the purpose of making a showing.
The bill before the Legislature calls for
the running: of the ferry from the foot
of Spokane avenue.

Miss Lurllne Cochran, aged 23 years.
died at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Capt Cochran, 122 East Tenth
Street North, yesterday morning. Miss
Cochran has been ill for some time, and
fears were entertained for her recovery
a month ago. She rallied and during the
late examinations in the city school, she
went back to her pupils in the North
Central Institution so that the pupils
could properly undergo the final work

and she suffered a relapse, which re
sulted in her death.

her class yesterday morning, there was
a general weeping, as all the scholars
had held their teacher In the highest
estimation. Miss Cochran had been a
teacher In this city for a number af
years. She was a daughter of Capt

mysterious steamer Arrow. The funeral
will be held tomorrow afternoon, River

A. R. Lawton, secretary of tha Fed
erated Trade Council, who seat a com
munication to the various members of

Federation of Labor, inviting them to
Portland next summer to hold - their
quarterly session, has received responses
from several of them. They state that
