The meeting- also decided that a tax
levy of 22 mills would have to be made
to raise the money for the new building.
The 22 mills will be raised In three
yearly installments S mills each for the
first two years and t mills for the third
year. Mr. StebMns of Mansfield was ap
pointed chairman of the building committee.
On account of the large number of
small children In the district who live at
Mansfield, it was decided to hold primary
school In the Mansfield Church.
Director Emery tendered his resigna
tion and a special election will soon be
held to appoint his successor.

Portland Will Rot Take in Outside
Territory This Season.
"It Is quits unlikely that the City of
"Portland Will annex any of the surround
ing suburbs this year," Bald a member of
the Multnomah delegation of the stat
Legislature. "As far as I know, and I
certainly ought to know, there have been
no bills for the annexing of Portland's
Suburbs brought before the delegation.
At Monta villa the residents are nearly
equally divided over the annexation-incorporation
project A meeting of the
local board will be held this evening and
an effort will be made to again bring the
project up for consideration.

Car Wrecks Wagon.
While driving a team down East Ank
eny street yesterday morning J. Howett
had a narrow escape from Instant death.
At the corner of East Fifteenth Btreet
an East Ankeny car crashed into the ve
hicle and Howett was thrown Into the
street. In falling, the driver managed
to keep hold of the lines, and thereby
stopped his horses from, running away.
His injuries were very slight
Arc Lights Needed.
Patrons of the Morrison street bridge
are indlgnapt because no attention is
given their petitions for the installation
of arc lights. The Morrison street
structure bears the heaviest traffic of
any of the bridges crossing the Willam
ette and It is also the poorest lighted.
