Vftsh Ington street line, there has just been started a great Improvement In the Third street- track -by the Glty apd-- Baburtaft- Company that will equal any yet pro posed. The old track is now being re moved and a new bed and rails will be laid. The rail Is the heaviest used on railroad lines and will Insure safety in handling the immense amount of trafflo of the company. This work will require several months for completion and the expense will be in the neighborhood of $100,000. Large crews of men are now at work and the rails are strewn along Third street ready to be placed in position as soon as the cement bed Is made. The company is having one track at a time treated in order to facilitate the work. The most extensive work now going on is the fill this side of Oregon City now being done by the Oregon Water Power and Elcctrlo Company. -This work was begun some time ago and is progressing as rapidly as possible. It began In the early summer when the cut-off was built at the town of Mllwaukie and the big cut Just over the river, which required the services of the big new steam shovel for several weeks, was made. The fill at Oregon City will require several months for completion.
