Con fldeace Is gradually bains restored, now that labor problems are all praotloally solved. At the southeast corner of West Park arid Morrison streets a three-story build in is to be erected. . The old bluldings occupying this site are now being re moved. The new building- will have a 60-foot frontage on Morrison and one of GO feet on West Park. The property Is owned by T. H. Bennett. As soon as the ground can be .cleared of the present ln- eunibrance, excavation will be gotten un der way at once,' When complete Mr. Bennett's new building will cost about 3M.0O0. Tills structure would have been started much earlier In the season had it hot been for strike troubles. It is in terided ,to . have it 1 finished within four months. The ground floor will be devoted to stores, and fh remainder of the build ing to rooming-house .purposes. Excavation work for the Portland Gen eral Electric Company's new brick build- i IhV on Alder street Is nearly completed. When the building is finished it Will add greatly to the appearance of the corner of Seventh and Alder. The basement to the building will be much deeper than Is usually the case, and it will Include with- la Itself the power room of the company. which is now in the old building along side. It may be taken as a hopeful indica tion that during the month tf June there were transfers of real estate recorded reaching a total valuation of $491,662.33. This represented 403 deeds. 'There were also' issued building permits to the num ber of S", and Of the value of 3194. 750. 88. The valuation of the transfers for June, 1901, were 32TS.316 or 3218,137.33 less than those ot the present year. Mention of a few of the recent permits issued is In order. Albert Gosnlch will erect a one-story dwelling on Umatilla avenue, between East Seventeenth and East Nineteenth streets, to cost 31300. A. J. Farmer will build two-story flats at the northeast oraer of Third and Lin coin streets to cost 36000. W. O. Holmes will put up a two-story dwelling on Williams avenue between Morris and Monroe streets, at a cost Of 11800. F. S. Manlon is building a two-story dwelling on East Fifteenth between East Salmon and East Main, at a cost of JJ70O. Among recent transfers may be noted the following: Two lots on Willamette Heights sold by M. C Thompson and wife to M. Mur- dock for 31600. " A lot In block 13, city, by the Alliance Trust Company to J. C. P. Weatengard, for $3250. A lot of acreage was sold by Charles ?Hhr to Robert El Case for 32500 in see tlon 30. B.-Lovelace and wife to E. J. Oassidy, lot 3, block 6, in Keystone Addition, for THE MARKETS, The buying of all the available supply . - of rice on the Pacific Coast by F. E. Har ris of M. Phillips & Co., San Francisco merchants, Is the sole topic of Interest on the street today'.. There can be only me outcome ofg tetaolnETAOINTJNUN ne outcome of the buy, and that' is that n advance on rice quotations will soon be made. At present no change appears. Receipts of fresh meats today were not TO liberal as they have been the pant week., but there Is plenty in the market for .everybody that wants to buy. The recent selsures of meat by the health officer has had a tendency to stop the consumption of meats to a large extent No change appears iu quotations today. Mayor Williams has decided to make an example of a man for-whose arrest a warrant aws recently Issued for the shipping, to this city of putrid meats. Too large receipts of poultry the past week have weakened the market consid erably. A number of coops of small spring chickens will most likely have to be kept over until Monday. Several coops of geese were received . yesterday and, had '.to be sacrificed' as the demand W very . light ' ' ,. :.
