the timber culture act to an ex
rent hitherto unknown. Here
tofore the rulings of the depart
ment have excluded all land
from timber culture settlements
upon which more than lifty
trees stood, the department tak
ing no note of the size of tini
her, its kind, or jualit.y. Un
der to-day's rulings entry- men
may take up under the timber
culture act any quarter section
upon which timber has no com
mercial value, or upon which
trees are not numerous onough
to warm ii r the purchase of land
for its timber.
This ruling will grant u-lit-f
to timber e.ilture settlers, and
makes it much easier to acquire
lrttid under this acr. as all grow
ing tree are to be counted in
compliance with the law, wheth
er he planted them or not.
