Appcrson's Bill.
A very suspicious bill has been
introduced into the legislature by
Apperaon, of Clackamas county,
gotten up evidently in the inter
est of some one who desires an
office and to spend an appropri
ation of .toUUO which the bill
calls for. ft is entitled "an act
to provent the production and
sale of wholesome food and to
regulate the sale of adulterated
foods, drinks and medicines."
The main and only feature of the
bill that command it to the legis
lature is already covered by the
present ''Dairy and Oleomargar
ine law" which this new bill pro
poses to do away with. It also
provides for the election of a
Food Commissioner by the joint
convention, and he can employ
experts, chemists and agents.
In the present Oleomargarine
law the appointment of a Com
missioner is left with the Clovern
or. It is charged that the new
bill is introduced in the interest
of some one who has a greater
desire for "oilieial pap" than he
has that the people should have
"wholesome food."

here he straightway proceeded to

He had been wandering for
some time how he could escape

the spell of soft converse and

impulsively:

ought to travel."
t He looked at her rigidly, rose
slowly and grasped his hat.
"No woman shall say that
