CHANGES IN LAND LAWS.
Tho House Committeo on Pub
lic Lands have agreed upon a
bill with reference to the Public
Lands of every class. In it are
embraced some important and
good changes from the laws now
in force. Among these is a pro
vision as to timbir lands, which
restricts any person, company or
corporation to the purchase of no
mere than the timber on four
sections of land, the mininum
price of which shall lie $10 per
acre.- Another clause provides
that pieces of land less than 1(50
acres may be sold at private sale
for not less than $7.00 per acre.
IMineral and reserved lands are
exempted from classification as
desert lands. The price of desert
lands to be twenty-five cents an
acre, and the time of occupation
and irrigation is reduced from five
years to three years, with privil
ege to mortgage one-half the tract
to enable the settler to make im
provements thereon: the mortgage
to go to the reserved rights of the
Government. The bill also pro
vides that a strip two rods wide
on each side of section lines on
public lands shall be opened as
a Hiblie highway, by the proper
authorities. upon petition to them
signed bv ten householders in the
countv.
