IV T LETTER FROM WOOD R1YER. Bellevue, I. T., April 23d, 1882. Wood Kiver, a branch of the S lake, has an elevation of 5,000 ft. above the sea. The vallev has an average width of about o ie mile. Th slope is uniform and pleasing. The mountains rise hundreds of feet on both sides of the valley. The scenery is wild and rugged. Eter. nal snow rests upon the distant peaks. w inters are long and se vere. The snow has just disappear- ed from the streets of the town CUrred the popular displeasure. The ore is principally galena, raug- oz- to G5 oz- silver per ton- The ledges run North West, boutn iList. JfJacer diggings are also found at various points of the river. The writer has been prospect ing the past month, and considers himself foitunate in securing one ledge, the Jay Bird and also has a - interest in the Maggie May lode. The principal towns are Bellevue, Hailey, Ketchum, Galena, Bullion, Sawtooth, Bradford and Muldoon. All are in the midst of rich .silver fields. This is the largest town in the valley. Jt is well laid out and will be of considerable importance. the agricultural interests of this region are of minor import ance. It is too hijrh for general pro- ! duce. THE AMUSEXF.XTS are various and exhilarating, con sisting of miscellaneous dances, balls, gambling, theatres, parties, etc. Religious services every Sun day and Thursday. The Sunday school has an attendance o. about 100; it is the most interesting and instructive place on the river to the writer. The race park will be in readiness on the 1st of Julv, where all of riotous nature may fiud a con genial atmosphere. Everything des- titute of horns is admitted to the curriculum. The Blue Mountain Belle would find a host of rivals in this region of sweepstakes.
