Sewell has returned home from Portland. Miss Yinie Forrester will sojourn in the county seat this winter. v . George B. says he owes us $15. We know what for too. George is proud. Frank McB. and G. H. have "'sword off" early. The wager is $100 a side. Miss Ada Worswick will take up lier residence in the city for several months. Have not" heard anything more ;about the Musicial Institute this week, think it must have gone up. Our Brass Band is making good progress. It will soon he one of the 'best bands in Grant County. Thompson & G roth's new hotel is quite an ornament to the town. Go in gentlemen, we wish you success. "Jjafe" Farmer was in town last '.Sunday and returned to his "cabin home" Monday. Since the AVoman Suffrage Socie ty has been organized in Canyon City quite a number of young ladies .have come to town to live. Let all attend the School Ball at John Day, next Friday night, as it is ior a good cause, and then they al ways come up here. We have a "Humboldt Washer" that we will sell, or trade for flour, wood, pork, wheat, or chickens. Dr. W. F. The Poindexters are all homesick, so we learn from a private- letter, and "Tom" savs lie misses the Brewery. It is fun to be an editor, pressman, tyjDO, collector, manager, reporter, mailing clerk, devil and then have the "leedle poys" for company half of each day. The several different Bankers in this city have been trying to "bust" each others banks for some nights; but they don't seem to "copper" right. AAre would suggest that this town be allowed another name that of Dog town or else let a reward be offered to the person that cm se- I cure the most dog pelts in a week. The date of this paper on the 1st should be 4th instead of 5th, and the number on part should be 35 instead of 34. Sarah Ann Arm strong, wife of Alexander Armstong, aged thirtv-two years and six moihs. Acquitted. The trial of H. C. Hald for shooting at J. J. Cozart, of Grant county, in May last at Bridge Creek, resulted in his acquittal. The jury were out all night and had quite a siege oi i. I waut butter, eggs, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, wood, pota toes, wheat oats, furs of all kinds, in exchange for goods. The highest market prices allowed. AV. H. CLARK. From the appearance of goods coming into Canyon City we should think that merchants expected a good season for selling goods. Keep them coming gentlemen. .TURKEY SKOOTINIL There will be a turkey shooting at Chas. Riley's, on South Fork, on Dec. 21st, 1880. At night a dance will be given and a general good time had. Last Saturday Mr. A. J. Palmer, who has been s journing in our town for several months past, took his de parture for his home near Silver City, Idaho. He took with him sik head of hordes that he purchased while here. The pastor and deacons of a Bap tist Church at Bakor Ci'v, and the pastor of the Methodist Church at the same place, are out i a card de nouncing the Rev. Spanswick, the revivalist who has been preaching and doing very naughty things in that neighborhood. New Goods. Another invoice of goods has just arrived at the store of AV. H. Clark. Selling for cash enables me to pay cash for my goods and to give my customers the ad vantage of the good bargains. AV. H. CLARK. Last Saturday we left our two boys in the News office with the "devil" while we went to the Post Office. . Upon our return we found them with blackened hands, face and clothes. Thoy had been in the ink. It was all right, of course, as they are "our leedle poys" and we are a "ladies' moin, do you see?" NOTICE.
