Death lias agaiu visited our com
munity and taken from the scenes
and associations of this life, one of
its most esteemed and upeful mem
bers Mrs. Martha A. Jackson.
Martha A. was horn in Pike, one
of the Mississippi counties of north
ern Missouri, OjL 3, 1SJ1. She
was tli3 e dest of a family of four
sons and iivo daughters of F.- S.
and Mary Ann Bonham. In the
year 184.0 the family came to "Wis.
and settled in a locality called Hur
ricane, in the town of Lancaster,
Grant county, eight years before
this b2came one of the . t .tes of the"
American Union. The family has
since 1 o :omc widely separated, the'
father at 74 and the mother al GS
vears of ae, still living in the town

of this place. She was the mother
of eleven children, two sons and
nine daughters' two of whom, a son
and a daughter, she h is followed ta
the grave. Three daughters fire"
married an.l are residents of the
town; and the othar children are
iri(m'jers of the home circle. In
I860 her religious feelings became
quicken d and she made a public
profession of faiih iu Jesus Christ,
and joined th s Free Baptist church
in that neighborhood. Upon coin
ing to reside in the village of Fotosi
she at once identified herself with
the cause here b' becoming an im
pjr.'arii helper auung Christian peo
ple; and desiring, after a time a
tjuer iiid more consistent avowal of
her discipleship, she presented her
self to the Congregational church
and was received into its fellowship
Feb. 17, 1880. During the past
vear she continued to fail in health,
and the best malij.il skill was set at?
naught by the ravages of an appar
ently incurable disease. Not many
days since she became worse aad
sank rapidly, expiring last Saturday
afternoon, November G, 18S0. Lan

the Grant County Teachers' Insti

Mr. "NY. F. Smith, who lives about
two miles from this place, had the
misfortune to lose his house and con
tents, amounting to about $700, by
lire, on Friday night, two weeks ago.-
SCHOOL EXHIBITION.
The pupils of the Public School
in Lhis city will rive an exhibition at
the .YLujni.j Hall, under the super
vision of the Teachers, Mr and Mrs.
M. N. Bonham, on the evening of
December 22nd, 18S0, admission 50
cents. Proceeds to go to the benefit
of the school.
