"We were informed bv a citizen of
this County a few days ago that he
could not procure a school book for
his childrenjn Grant County, while
hundreds of books were at the Agen
r.v and on the road for the benefifof
the Indians, who have not been on
tli ft 1-ARAWn.tioii for two rears and
overfto use them.
Of course our friend will remem
ber that the administration takes
care of the Indianachildren and that
ft
it is not to;be supposed for . an in
stant that CarPSchurtz or any of the
parties now in power to look to any
other children as the "poor Indian
must be educatedso they can shoot
and steal to perfection."
Besides the Indians may possibly
come back and it will be handy to
have 15;)r 20 books apiece for them
8otheylcan have'sonie wadding and
ho on. "When our citizens are able
to see the Beservationfthrown open
and from 100 to 150 nice good farms
in a high state of cultivation instead
of a set of raving red devels, then
perhaps our frontier settlers can pro
cure books for their children. We
understand that in all probability
the reservation will be thrown open
for settlement next Spring as an. in
voice is being taken of the goods
now at the Agency.
The Town Talk of, "Walla "Walla,
is ever lastingly going for Col.
Frank "Winnemucca, whoever that
may be. And one would judge from
the tone of the Town Talk that he
had committed numerous bad deeds,
such as horse stealing and house
breaking and other matter of great
er crime. The Talk says he tries to
edit a paper, but we hope that part
of it is only a joke. But we guess
the Town Talk is ready to back up
its assertions from the way it "speaks
right out in Meetin."
