The backers of Rosa S. have in
informed us that they have put up a
forfeit of $250 to run Blue Bell" a
'half a mile on the Bnker City track,
on the 1st or 2nd Saturday after the

side, in response to a proposed
i natch race between Mr. J. H. Ham
ilton, owner of 331uo Boll and S. H.
: Shepherd on the 3rd day of the
Grant County Fair. In case the
trainers of either of the two inarcs
object to lot their mare go it is no go.
When the race is 'closed and days',
'thou the forfeit is good. It will be
the most exciting race ever inn on
"this coast as both are supposed, to be
fastest on record, and will be backed
Uo the amount of 20,000 or more.
From the display of grain at the
'County Fair, that was raised ondes
crfc land in this County we are led
to believe that Grant County is the
best wheat producing county in this
State. There in plenty of the same
kind of land now idle and these who
dosirc a ranch should i. irate atpr.ee
as next year it may be too late, as
the emigration to Oregon next year
will bo immense.
The ladies will find in another rot
