known to transient visitors as the

It seems the Oregonian gets ahead
of our local paper in furnishing the
news from this piace. I have seen
in that paper a month ago the sale
of Levens' cattle at Ft. Harney. It
is a hand thing to have some other
reporter got ahead of the News Re
porter on local items. Mr. Peter
French, our energetic and enterpris
ing stockman was the purchaser.
Dame Rumor has it that c'Pcte" has
one of your pretty John Day girls

Abbott & Whitosido the "solid
Muldoons" of this section have sold
out their stock and ranch to Todhun

bott was a candidate for State Sena
tor two years ago and was defeated
by only 0 votes. Both he and his
partner came to this country ten
years ago comparatively poor, men;
but by honorable dealing, industry
and perseverance they have acquired
a snug fortune. They carry with
them the best wishes of this section

As the tiihe for holding tho Fair
approaches people seem to realize '
that it is going to be a grand success I
and therefore they wish to be repre
sented and will either take some ar
t-tide for exhibition or their whole
family to inspect the things there.
This town has been veil visited by
"commercial men" during the last
month, and still they come.
THE C. C. UJtASS BAX'D BALL
On Friday evening, Sept. 24th, at
about seven o'clock the Canyon City
Brass Band, accompanied by the
Prairie Cily Band marched from tho
I. O. G. T. Hall down through Main
Street, four abreast, in torchlight
procession, to the Ball Room The
spectators that were gathered on the
sidewalks to witness a scene never
before seen or heard of in Canyon
City were more than delighted with
the music that the proud band of 2o
sent re-echoing throughout the hills
and canyons; and each and every
one vowed that the boys deserved
and should have a grand benefit;'
s'j acting" accordingly 44 tickets were
sold. People that never attended a
dance before in this place were there
and 1 "tripped the light fantastic" to1
the sweet strains of the verv best of
music. At near midnight the Baud
played a tune in the ball room in:
honor of Mrs. H. R. Sels, who had
sd generously made each of the boys

is usually asked by. the absent ladies
how such and such an one was attir

dress worn by each lady present as
near as possible, and if per chance
any nave been missed they will put
theirself in a reporter's place long
enough to learn the magnitude of
the undertaking, and then hand us

Eastern Tourists.
Probably more Eastern tourists
have visited this Northwest Coast
during the'present season than ever
before, and they all bear testimony
to our unsurpassed natural advanta
ges and great resources and are en
tusiastic in regard to our future when
railroads shall have superseded the"
tedious ocean steamers and popula
tion comes pouring in. "The pro
prietor of the Oregon Kidney Tea
are equally sanquino of its future,
for it litis thus far cared every case
of back-ache or disease of the kid
neys and urinary organs that it has
been tried on. Sold everywhere.
