JOHN DAY.
On last Monday we mounted the
seat beside Mr. David Fisk and rode
down to John Day and alighted at
the store of "Tony" Hacheney whom
we found busy aid very tired He
informed us he had an immense
stock of goods on the way; also a
fine money safe. Next we called on
our genial young friend Ffarik Mc
Callum. Frank has made valuable
improvements in his store room, aiid
now has tho largest room in the
place. Instead of a variety store he
now runs a stock of general Mer
chandise. Frank also has a well as
sorted stock of goods on the way up.
Now comes McDowell & Ran. Thev
have a josy saloon and a nice little
billiard table, and dispence fine
liquors and cigars to their custom
ers. They are "bully boys" and
will not sell to minors or men that
are full See "adv." in another
column. From there we went to
the butcher shop of Thos. Howard
where we found "Tom." happy.
He has a nice shop, tender meat and
every thing handy and new and
knows pist how to work it up. At
the Hotel and Restaurant of AV. H.
Hell we found Geo. Kniesley, who
jmid us for theNEWs. The Hotel is
a "bran" new house and is destined
to bo the house of John Dav. It is
well patronized and Kelly is sure to

called on Mr. Gentrv, the new har-

up and will soon open out in good
style. Mr. G. is said to be a No. 1
workman. Ho also gave us an ad-
vertisement. The stacre had arrived
by this time and promising the boys
to como again and stay all day we
took our departure for Canyon. In
passing through we noticed that the
building of Max Metschan is nearing
completion. Hank Jarrel is also
improving and all in all John Day is
"booming." The balance of the
town will be noticed the next time
we visit John Dav.
