This issue of this paper is the last
"before election. Until a few weeks
ago nothing- was said by the editor
in regard to political affairs, and on
ly then after evidence came pouring
in so fast- that "ve were assured that
the Supreme Court of this State had
rendered very bias decisions and re
membering that we were running a
paper to do the most good for this
particular county, and as the selec
tion of Supreme Judges "is not a
political matter" (see article in an
other column from the Daily Stand
ard, the democratic si andard bearer)
we claim that we have not as yet en
tered into politics but have only act
ied as the Catholic Sentinel, Christ
ian Advocate, New Northwest, and
several other neutral non-partisan as
well as a number of Independent
Democratic papers are doing, that is
warning the people of this State as
to how Kelly and Prim are unfit for
Supreme Judges.
It has been said by some persons
that being a democrat we ought not
to have allowed anything- said in the
News about democratic candidates.
We quote from our columns of
months ago: "It will not be con
trolled by any party, sect or creed,
ring, clique or clan, but each and
every one can have space to give vent
to their feelings, or room to express
their personal, political or religious
views by paying for said space at our
advertised rates. It knows no party. ' '
Because certain persons have seen
fit to pay for and use space in accor
dance with the above it is not our
right to refuse them simply because
it was about a democrat. The dem
ocrats certainly had the privilege of
dening all charges, or charging any
other candidate with what they wish
ed to
Our sentiments are these: As
long as men are on our ticket that
are honest, capable and just we will
stick to it from head to tail. But
ivhen they are the opposite we will
not vote for them. To vote for men
whether theives, murderers, or what
not singly because they are on your
ticket is not democratic, but instead
encourages a monarcy; and all that
would be necessarry after one party
got in power would be to appoint all
fHseri in the Governmenc, and of
course the most noted trickster or
highwayman could control affairs for
life. It is democratic to oust men
when they become corrupt, and any
one that says nay does not know
what democracy is and should not
recognized as honest men.

Politics are hot in this bur g
i ux .
Let the People Consiiler.
As (he time f ir the election an-
preaches, the people should carefully
consider into whose hands they prop .-e
o entrust the execut'on of the ln.
The selection of Supremo Judges is
ot a political matter. It is a question
ubove party, nnd o.e which decides the
choice of fhe people as to who shall sit
as final arbitrator where may arise the
questton of life, and the rich's to all
their property. It is well t- consider
the great i.-sue presen'ed. While each
political party has placed in the field a
party ticket, yet the offices are not par
tisan and the voters should not regard
them as t-uch.
Wuuid it not. bo a mockery of jus
tice to !ipp'al a case from men of abil
ity on the Circuit bench tu tools of a
:iiir, and put the r'gh's of every ei'izen
he ond a possibi'ity of a redress ? T hi
ts a question for tho people to decide
on th 7th of June. It is a matter
above party."
We take the above from tho Daily
Standard. Voters will setd carefuily
and vi.te accordingly.
THE GREENWOOD WILL CASE.
Upright coiuts are the. snf.-ty of tho
people, and befwre voting for Kelly ind
Prim ev ry one should ivd the te
view of this ea-e which is now s-catt r
ed through thj county and over the
State. It h a bc.'ii prepared by '-Junius
Brutus"' who did u ar th.; tequ st
of Mrs. Ciine on the wish of some S.i
lem eitizms who felt that a giv.-it
vroni hid been dne bv the enirt. It
is in the shape of a new-piper with the
title of tx,.U caption, and unbraces tho
facts tcstiii d to by each witness, the
opinion of the court in full and a re
view by "Junius Brutus" in an open
a:d utihesittting way. It is in irder
for Ke'ly and Prim and Gov. Thayer
and Bollinger t defend it if they :m.
But Prim's own opinion condemns him
'ind Kelly.
