Homicide. At a School Meeting
on North Fork, on Monday, 2nd
inst., a man by the name of Harry
Berstow and Gid. Eeacham got into
a quarrel about sonic 'cattle and af
ter a few words Berstow threw his
coat, drew his revolver around in
front, at which time Beacham took
a view of his peril and drew his re
volver and shot Berstow in the ab
domen killing him almost instantly.
It is said that Berstow was consider
ed a desperate man. An examina
tion was held this Veek before mc-

Tun festival at Mr. Jno. Herber
ger's was well attended and a gen
eral good time passed. The supper
was set in the jv.igle Hotel, and, as
Major Magonc says that Grant coun
ty beats any place he ever saw f or
.Sood meals, people can judge of the
repast on this occasion. leadings,
recitations, declamation", and music
were the amusements of the evening.
Mention should be made of Mr. M.
FitzGerald, Mrs. W. H. Clark, Ma
jor Magono mi. H. Stanislawsky and
others for their aid in making the
evening entertaining.
Tun County court tit its session
last week let a contract for the build
ing of new Jurv rooms on the site
of the old rooms. Judges of elec
tions were appointed for the several
precincts. Liquor licences were is
sued to F. c. Sels and to Woolsey &
Housman. of this city.
About $1,700 of bills were order
ed paid by warrants.
Personal. We have received
calls this week from Messrs. Fitz
Gerald, Golden, Purington, and G.
Clark; also Mr. B. N. Barnett, of
Portland, he is in our city on bus
iness and will renain several weeks.
He is a very pleasant gentleman and
