THE SURVEYING PAHTY.
Col. Walcott arrived in our
City on last Monday, having
left his surviving party on Wil
low creek. We had a conversa
tion with Col. Wolcott aufl find
that he is now surveying a line
from the mouth of Boiso River
to the head of Willow creek
and from there he will run two
lines to the head of this, John

most leasable route from Boise
to the Columbia, and as far as
has been surveyed this route is
very much the shortest and in
all probability, if the road is
built, will be the one selected.
Col gives as his opinion that
the road will be a broad gausrc
one and will be finished through
to the Columbia Biver in two
jears after work is commenced.
We took pains to ascertain if
ihe two canyons below this
point on the River would be
any trouble and as a result, we
.are sure that no obstruction

ers at the above place this morning.
The facts of the case are these: It
seems thar Murphy ordered Chas' Yick-
ers, tn.ther to the decked, out of his
(Murphy's) camp a few days prvviou--
ly. Charles Vickers returned from
'his Post yesterday and visited Mur
phy's camp for the ostensible object of
eeing his brother. Murphy ordeivd
him t- addle up and leave. He re
plied that he would when Jim came,
(meaning his brother) who returned in
a shoit time. Both brothers then hp
proached Murphy in u threatening
manner, calling him all ports of had
names. Murphy gut up to del'md
himself and w s instantly covered
with u levolver in the hand of the de
ceased. Murphy was unarmed and
fearing violence at the hands of the
Vickers, went and armed himself and
returned to hi camp this morning.
Upon his arrival in camp there were
none of the Vickers there except Wit
