Concering Sheep. Careful writers on the subject have noticed the general immu nity from disease found in all flocks of American sheep: and this is a matter of much import ance, giving to the United States special advantages as a sheep-breeding and mutton producing countiy, Maiir of the diseases of sheep which are j described as comparatively common in Europe are un known in the United States: 0 and this remark applies partic u'arly to tho':;e which have proved so destructive abroad Very man7 formidable mala dies described by European wr'lers are wholly unknown hi-re. and others seldom met wi'h. nr if met with, occur in localities where they are not recogt ized. We have some foot rot and scab, it is true, with more or less colds, catarrh kin! gaub in the head, but in jeneial our flocks are very healthy. Indeed, the Hon. H. S Kandall, one of our best in formed writers on this subject, expressed an opinion some years since that all the diseases of sheep in this country with which he was acquainted and he had sent circuhus for infor mation upon this sudject to all parts of the United States d,d not cut off two per cent, annually of well fed and well managed grown sheep. One of our greaiest drawbacks in sheep husbandry is the presence of so is any useless, vicious dogs and their ravages are so alarm ing in many states as to raise a practical prohibition against sheep keeping. In the vicini ty of towns and laage villages, where dogs abound, sheep are scarce; and but for this, all Xew England might be one vast sheeofold. Health of Horses. The health and cl m fort of horses "have of late 3ears been greatly improved by the bef'er construction of stib'es. They ore now made more roomy and lofty, ur1 p:ov:ded w'th means of thorough vejiiH'i'n. In m- y new stibles lof'rf are done away with, or the floor of j the ! f b h kept well above the horses' ! t head"', and ample yhaf's are introduced I to envey away foul air. By perfor- j ated bucks and gratings under the man gers, and el-e where around the walls, and nnlj by windows ond ventilators, abundance of pure air ij secured for the 1iivg-; while beins: introduced in moderate amount, and from various di rections, it comes in without draught. Too much draught U almost an un known stable luxury. To secure a con stant supply of pure stir, horses require ra'Te cubic space than they generally oijoy. Even when animal are sta bled only at night, a medium of 1200 cubic feet should bo allowed. In England the newer cavalry barracks iv a minium of 1500 cubic feet, with around area of fully 90 square feet per horse; and the best hunting an-1 carriage horse stubles have more ronm.- Journal of Chemistry.
