Tbt wool olip of Easti ro Oregon the present
year is immense and will increare until like
Anstrlia, ita wool, product will yield more
gild than b.r minns. Many of the cattle men
of Eiiern Oregon aro disposing of their 6tcck
and purchasing large flocks of cheep. As ye'
men'a rights aTe ohFcrved; that ie. if a man
take a flock ot sheep upnn a cert tin range,
those who follow respect his right of priority
and move onto other ranges. In time, these
range will ba entornl and cat down in size
the bunch grasi will be killed out, and owners
will be compelled to oira for flocks in a similar
mannei to the farmers cf this valley. Sheep
kill out bunch grais in n few years, but a fine
tender grass springs up in its place, which
farntsbei excellent rarigo. The oittle men and
the sbecp men do not d "oil togother in
unity, as cattle will not range with sheep, the
the latter eating the grass oloso to the ground
and oausing tho borders to exchange frontier
conplemonta, oftlimes io sundry nnd divers
ways. For years to como there will be fort
unes mndo on tho bnncb press hills of Eastern
Oregon W asbington and Idcho, bnt tho time
will coran when the stork men will bo cnmpoll
ed to migrate or turn tbnir attention otherwise.
The Ia"t timer from this port took awsy
almost $200,000 worth of wool and still it ac
cumulates daily at this point. List evening
the stenmer Wide West brought down seven
hundred baleB, and thousand moro aro wait- j
ing to be forwarded to this port at varions 1
rlong tho Upper Columbia. Tbeyie'dof the
Willamette valley this season will also be im
rncn?e, and the farmer who ha3 spare acrapc
can do no better than to turn it over to a fbek
of sheep S'andard.
Tnn Arabian Stallions presented fo Er
President Grant by tho Sultan of Turkey,
have just arrived in Washington and ao in
charge of Col. J. It. Lovctt, owner and driver
of the celebrated maro, American Girl. Crowds
of horsemen and others are rasbin? to got r
eight of tho bnnutiful apimnls. "Lopnrd."
one of tho great horecB, is a dappled gry, six
years old, and full grown. ''Linden Tree,"
the other, is a steel-grer, Ave yra-s old, and
they aro both beauties. Tho Arabian Fhoes are
a strange specimen of workmanship, made of a
heavy fiat piece of sheet-iron adjusted to tho
hoof, with a slight bend to fit it up under the
fet'ock. Tho gorgeouB trappings are adjects of
great interest. Offers of $50 and $75 bar0
been made for the old shoes, and ?5 ocb for
the nails. These beautiful studs aro to bo ta
ken to tho farm of Gen. Boal, near Wpshington
aud kept until the roturn of thoir distingnishid

In tho Ogden Freeman of the 10h inst.
wo find the following interesting artio'e, Mr.
Villard, tho partner of Jay Gould in the Oeden
and Portland, Oregon, Railroad, was in Ogdcn
Mondoy, and nfter oonferring with his ohief
engineer, Col. Thielscn, instructions trers giv
en by tolrgraph to put tbrco additional par
ties cf eurvoyors in the field to hurry tho lnca
tion of the road from Walla Walla via of the
pars north of the stpgo road, through tho Blue
Mountains, and put on a mffiricnt force to
complete tbo rvilwny from Walla Walla to the
Grande Hondo valley in time to tranfport the
fall crops to tbo srnbrard. Tbo purcbore
0. S. N. Co's. lino from Astoria and Portland
to Wallula, and Dr. Baker's railroad from
Wallnla to Walla Walla was consumated by
.Gould and Villard. It is also the intention
to construct seventy-five miles of track across
tbo lava beds of Snake river immediately, for
the purpose of securing the trade of Idaho
and Eastern Oregtn this reasan. This road
will intersect the Ogden and Montana Rail
road near the mouth of Portncof canyon, and
strike directly for the point where the Little
nnd Big Wood rivers mrJn their confluence
with Malad river, and from thenco it will fol
low tho valley of Cstnns creek across tbo
Camas Prairio, thence to Boise City, This
throws the track near the wonderful rich mines
nnd vast forests of timber of Altnras and
Lemhi counties, Idaho.

The Daily Bee says, the old
Mexican veteran, Gen. Joe
Lane, was serenaded last night
at the Clarendon, by a large
number of his friends together
with the Northwestern band.
The band played a tune on the
corner of First and Alder and
collected a crowd, after which
the band marched down the
street to the hotel. The old
general was called out and made
a short speech, which was re
ceived wuh applause. Lane is
the only general of the Mexi
can war who is alive now. Gen.
Jas. Shields, who died less than
two months ago, left Lane the
sole survivor, and it will not
be long before he, too, will be
placed upon the retired list."
