Tie Braat Conty lews. OXLY PAPER IN Git A NT COUNJ.V. Official Paper For Grant Cottnty. Canyon City, Saturday June 14, 1870. P. J. SiiEPiiftiiD, Editor. The Way to Come. In reply to lotters from different parties t) whom we hare been sending the NTev.$ in the Eist and the Sjuth, on our own account, we will give the following infoimation ;is reliable: The best way to come to this valley is to makeup a com piny and purchase the best brood m ires you can get and lot them hi with foil bv stood Norman or Percherou horses, secure gof)d wag ons and all the supplies you need on the road, at your starting place, and come overland, which will take you about three months from the Missouri river. Avoid the fickle and unreliable tales and statements of the land sharks and California agents who are wait to end you to other portions of the Pacify ic coast, by giving you false reports and untrue statements about EASTERN OREGON. There are stations where you can stop at every niht, where good water, feed and provision can be bought un til vo'i arrive at Oirden. from there the horses will need nothing but grain, as grass is plenty and mre nourishing than hay. The eruignnt need not be afraid of the Indins, as they are most ly on thi reservation, and every twen ty or twenty-five miles arc stitions where news can he heard. When you arrive at Boise City yon will have an opportunity to 1 ly in a fivsh supply of everything you need, as Boise is the Capital of Idaho and is a lan:e town. FROM BOISE TO JOHN DAY is a good road and about 190 miles from the first, named place to Prairie City. If, after taking a look at this valley, you do n t like it, you are riht on your road to Yakima, Palous Pu get Sund, and the Columbia River, but as those valleys are nearer the sea board the opportunity for stock raising is not 30 good as in Eastern Oregon, and we know of no c unty that pre sents so flattering prospects to so.k raisers and farmers as does Grant coun tv. Another way to coma is by rail to 0 den or Kelton, and by team or stage from thereto place of destination; but the last mentioned way costs t o much unless people do not wish to be on the road more than ten or twelve days, however it is advisable for large fami lies to spend a few mnthin oming thereby savins all the way from two to five hundred dollars in way of passage money, besides having a nice trip. Immigrants will find this a mountain, ous country, interspersed with beauti ful, fertile vaUeys which makes it one of tin bst farming countries on the Pacific coast. It is also an unexcelled stock raising country, and any man who is energetic and goes into the stock business alone soon acquires a uood fortune. We have men in Grant county who have, by strict attention to business, increased their band of stock from S5000 to S200,000 in value. Others can do as well In ifi":ird to the aveiaee vicld of o j crops, wt have stated in previous issues of the News. Farmers arc well fixed here and get handsome prices for everything they raise or produce. Dramatic and Variety Company. Mr. Gu Dunham, Businsss Manager for the Du Prez Dramatic and Variety Company is in our city, and informs us that his troupe will arrive in a few days and that they will give several entertainments during next week prom here they go to Piairie City, where they purpose giving a series of performances. Before leaving Canyon A. City they propose to give a benefit to the Public School, here, if acceptable. If our people desire to see a good en tertainment, they should improve the opportunity to attend. Full particulars will be given hereafter by large posters, We forgot to mention a handsome present from Miss Blanch Clark. Bet ter late than never. Blanchie. Many thanks. Court Proceedings.
