33: Tie Mt Coniilj Nets. ONLY PAPER IX GRANT CO UN XV. Official Papor For Grant County. Oaii) on C.ty, Saturday May 'M, LS'70. S. H. Shepherd, Editor. THE BOUND KYLINZ. Malheur Agency, Or., May 22, 7'.). Editor News: Mr. Vantis, Coun ty Commissioner of Baka- County, is here with a load of supplies for the sur veying party engaged in running the County Lino, as established by thelast Legislature. lie informs me that the party consists of seven men, and that the surveying is being dot.o by M. Foster, of Baker Ci'v. Thev aiv nou Castle Peak and are expected here to day, lie says they are .after Mr. Dav idson and think they will get him.' If j Grant will not let him leprescnt her for j ids full term Baku will elect him, so he shall nut lose any of his term or its honor. lie also informs me that the bill for surveying will not likely ex ceed TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS to Grant Country's share. When the pat ty arrive, I will inform you about the size f t the slice 15aker County is goo - 1 bhng irom Grant. From the above it will, be seen that Baker County wants' to go ut!e whole hog or none." We are of the opinion that the Ilonoiablo County Court of that county will have a glorious time collecting the amount as claimel by them to be "Grant County's share." How is it that our Senator submitted to be deceived by the Sen at r from Ba ker in the establishment, of the boun dary line at, the last session of the leg islatuRe? Mr. Davidson surely wa de ceived, for all know that he would n- t intentionally legislate himself out of this county, but no doubt he has put himself in a fair position to be a citizen of Baker County. "YY e aiv soi ry to si our honorable Sen at- r in this way, and more so because it is against lis win not only do we regret to loe him but also do we hate to give away a slice of our county. After Baker Comity gets a portion of Grant for nothing they employ surveyor, helper.-, teams and purchase all supplies in Baker City, and then propose to hand in a bill of twelve hundred dollars or over as our share of the expenses and have the au dacity to think this county will sub mit to all, like a lamb. They should remember that the initial point of com mencement line, as proposed by the io stigator of the bill, and so passed, is out in the Pacific Ocean. Perhaps it, would be well for our Baker Comity neighbors to look up the bid and s e what a blunder there is in it before too much expense is incurred. An Offer A number of citizens of this county have made the remark that "the' thought they would not sub scribe for the News, a rhy had been 'bilked' out of their money twice before by 'newspapers' in Canyon Cby." It is a foregone conclusion with us that a paper can live, thrive and succeed in Grant County; and havb.g arrived at the above conclusion we will make the following offer to those who have 'lost' three, six or nine dollars bv th' other papers, by waiting until th-y were on the eve cf suspension before they sub scribed; it is this, that if they will hand or send in their name inside of one month we will send them the News for oue year, with the understanding that if we do not run a year they pay us not a quarter but if they receive the paper a year they arc to pay us So. i30. Our terms are three dollars in advance, but we make the above offer to show that we mean buiness and have more coun ty pride than some men who own large interests here and have lived in the county for years. We are willing to furnish the News to such men for a year on the ab?ve term, (and it must be so undertood), for when it comes to county advancement we are no three per cent man. To those persons who were injured by the Iudiaus last Sum mer, that are desirous of subscribing o we are perfectly willing to take from them wood, eggs, chickens, butter, or such vegetables as we can use.
