ATURDAY,, MAY 15. 1909, The Daily Market Report PORTLAND, May 14.--Following! advance of 2 cents pound which Lk place on Tuesday ot thin week, iy butter makers today announced Irtlr 2.,. lift, nulllitff Umlar.l Ity creamery butter uo to 28 cents L' lii . -i". i - .... emn tn. n.gnc.. Pn ...w. P " " ""f 'r lhe,r' lower price within the next few Wctki. A decidedly itrong demand north ' for butter for the Altmka market ami' the fact that Coast luppllci for the! time appear to be actually short of requirement! are responsible for the present ipnrt in the market. The firltj large ihlpmenti from I'ugct Sound to I the Far North will leave about the ; first ot June, and to make up theie jcoiuigtiiiicnt Sound dealers .have j been buying freely, yet have not been able to get the quantities they need. ! At the prices that have ruled for the pat few weeks it was impossible to bring In butter from the East. Now, with local prices 4 cents higher than at the first of the week, the situa tlon is changed materially, and the chances are that considerable East ern butter will be brought in shortly for the Fugct Sound and Alaska mar kets. That the Coast markets will weaken somewhat upon the arrival ol large quantities of Eastern butter and the subsidence of the Alaska demand is quite possible, but in this connec tion it must be remembered that pro ductoin will then be on the decline to some etent, while at the same time the ice cream caon will be on. At this tme In 1905 standard city creamery outter was selling at m cents a pound in the wholesale ma" ket. and the following year at the same figure.
