V EDNESDAV, MAy IZ 19W. THE MORNING ASTORIAN, ASTORIA, OREGON. tit.. The Daily Market Report PORTLAND,' May 11. -Willi the advance of 2 cent announced by some of the cily creamcrlc today, rnUIng the price of standard butter to 26 centi pound,, it would seem that the low point for the season had been reached and that the up ward course of the market, which in always ejected about this time of the year, rVaa itarted. This may or may not be the cane.. It will all de pend upon the supply and demand and the general condition of the Const marked for the next week or two, The chances, however, ire that the price announced today will hold and that the courae . of the market from thla time on will be upward, The new price given out by aome of the ereamcriei today i not yet uniform, aome .of the city makera till quoting slightly lower litres, wn m me event tne market continitea at firm generally at now and current make work off ai rapidly, the but ter makers will probably be together at the higher price In the near future At the low price prevailing, the past week the butter market has been very active, especially with the clijf cream eries, and It U reported that some of them have hardly been able to fill order. At the same time, the coun try creamery trade, while not quite so active, has been far from slug fish, and the bent of the outside brands have moved readily, at city creamery prices. ..The upward ulrn of the market this year starts at exactly the same dale as a year ago. On May 11, 1908, standard city creamery went from -'21 to 24 cents, and on May 10 there was another lift to 25, - From ' that time on the course of the market was upward. A fact of Interest this year Is the advance in the price of butter at the time when production la heaviest Current cream, and milk reccjjits now are heavier than at any previous time this year,, But at prices slight ly higher than a year ago the Coast markets generally have held up well this year, and the tendency at all points is now dislipctly upward.
