It wa a main thoroughfare for the vast majority of people in Uppertown and the matter seems to have been utterly forgotten, or deliberately ignored by the Coun cil, and the present movement is to arouse both people and Council to the necessity of proceeding with the shortly repairs required at that point and putting the streets into active and compensating use again, and resum ing the traffic that has needlessly The abut- the this The startling intelligence death of Gilford O. Moon, city, announced yesterday after 2 o'clock. Mr. Moon having ex pired in his rooms at the Hotel Northern at that hour. The news was entirely unexpected, in the sense barred for all this time. that, while many knew of Mr. Moon's invalid condition, none knew that he ting property owners, in the closed period, have not spent one dollar for was in serious stra'its save those in improvements of any .sort in that close and intimate association with him at the hotel. County Bridge At Seaside- Last year the question of building a county Drioge across ine ;ecai cum at Seaside,, connecting East Seaside with West Seaside,' at a point ; about two hundred yards north of the the present bridge, was brought up in the county court and bids ad' vertiscd for and received, but tor' some reason no contract was entered into. The rapid growth of West Sea side necessitates the building of the additional bridge. The present bridge is at the west end of Bridge street, which runs from the depot to the bridare. C Flavel, regard ing the proposed establishment of additional oil tanks in this city, met with apparently far-reaching approv al by many prominent citizens who were quite as frank about the matter as was the Astorians correspondent; though many of them, including such men as J. W.' Welch, the Fisher brothers, Benjamin Young, and oth ers, went further, and declared their readiness to subscribe promptly and adequate for a try-out in the mat tcr of an injunction against the in tended concession by the council; a steo that if successful, is likely to be followed by the further effort to dis lodge the tanks already established within the city limits. A contract was awarded to V- C Hartell to improve road No. 51 frow station 81 to 86 for the sum of $12SV and to furnish a bond in the sura of $100, and complete the work fcf August 1. A contract was awarded to Olaf . Olsen to improve road No. 51 horn station 26 to 35 for the sum of $475. to furnish a bond in the sum of $250, and complete the improveroeat by September I. The matter of making, a county exhibit at the state fair at Salem on September 13 to 18, the clerk was in structed to write F. A. Welch, secre tary, that the court had not maae any provisions for an exhibit this year. A contract was ordered entered in to with Mikkleson and Utio for build ing a bridge across Blind Slough for the sum of $525, they to furnish a bond in the sum of $250 and complete the bridge by July 1st.
