being the amount due the State of
Oregon, and that he be directed to
forward laid amount to the State

The Clerk having been Instructed
to draw a warrant for the firm half ot
the State tax in the um of '$13,515 00
being one half of the tax levied tt
per statement filed with the Coun.y
Clerk on January 7, 1909, which
amount wai levied and extended on
the tax roll of the County, and laid
roll was delivered to the Sheriff for
collection. It now appear! that the
tame board thereafter made another
levy, after railing the taxable prop
erty of Clataop County from $8,782.-
416, ai ihown on the tax roll of tail
county to $14,654,282.12, without no
tice to the Court and without Hating
wherein and whereon auch raise wat
made and Increasing the amount due
from Clatsop County, to the State, to
the total aum of $31,237.50 same being
$4,207-50 In excena of the firit levy
and of the amount levied by the
County Court for State purposes.
The County Treasurer appeared and
asked the Court for positive Instruc
tion! regarding the amount he should
pay the State. It U ordered by the
Court that the County Treaitirer pav
to the state only the sum of $13,515
00 ai the first half, and that the Court
will protect the County Treasurer In
this matter. -
Ordered that bids be asked for im
proving County Road No. 51vbegin-
ning at station 26 and extending to
station 35. and from station 81 and
extending to station 86x50. Bids to
be filed by May 5th.
Ordered that bids be asked for im
proving county road No. 192, and
building a bridge In Road District
No. 16 (Blind Slough) Bids to be filed
on or before May 5tb.

completely flulshed resembles a broad
canal between stone lined banks, the
stone rising a few feet above the wa
ter, and nbove it tho green slope of the
fields or a fringe of willows. It Is ail
peaceful, complete and generally beau
tiful, with at least tho beauty of util
ity whore, it lacks that of ruggedness

French artists just inaugurated, ranks communication was sent to Oak Point

any." H. S. Hubbell of Chicago shows
two canvasses strong in color and ex
ecution which the jury honored by
hanging on the line of the salon if

Among other pictures attracting at
tention are works of Cathcleen Mc
Eney of New York and Mrs. B.
Blumenschein and Gertrude S. Grey,
of San Francisco. Among the mar
bles one of the most striking groups
is Carvin's "Muse-Aviation which the
Department of Sarthc intends to pre
sent to Orvillc and Wilbur Wrighr,
the American aeronauts. Carvin also
shows busts of the Wright brothers.
' Richard E. Brooks exhibits two ex
cellent busts, one of W. Z. Ward of
Seattle, and the other of Roger Lud
low for the Capitol at Hartford. A
statue of General Lew Wallace, by
Andrew O'Connor, is noticeable.
