tration of the remarkable energy of
aximeters on New York taxicabs
was given last night in the arrest at
Coney Island of "Jack" McAuliffe,
the former champion pugilist who
said that he had engaged the taxicab
at Forty second street and Broadway
for a spin to the resort. The taxi
meter showed that McAuliiffee own
ed $32.50 and it was computed that
by the legal fare this would repres
ent 75 milet of travel. The .chauffeur
Insisted on collecting, McAuliffce re
fused to pay and was locked up.
