THE MORNING ASTORIAN, ASTORIA, OREGON. FRIDAY, APRIL 2J, 1909. The Daily Market Report PORTLAND. Aprl 22, -Dealers report a Mow by steady Improvement In tin condition ol th potato market, the remit of a slightly better demand In the south, and offers of aa high as $1.50 a hundred to tlx grower! for strictly fancy stock are being made. Som& shipments are going south, probably a down to 20 cars a week on tha average, but the trade In spuds is not quite as active as usual -at this time of theyear, mainly be cause of the bullish attitude of the growers. Receipts of butter from the outside continue light, a totul of 226 pack ages being brought In today, accord ing to the Board of Trade, and the ; market holds steady to firm at the prices that have ruled for week. City creamery men report current make cleaning up well and the de mand appears' to be sufficient to take all the California and country but ter coming this way. The expected break In cheese seems to be a little slow In coming. Despite the recent heavier arrivals from th Coast, there It no surplus In the local trade and the outside demand continue strong. As re sult prices are wett maintained. Egg receipts continues fairly lsrge, but alt that come are readily taken up, the surplus dally going Into the hands of storage men and to the Sound markets, and the chancea are that the market from this time on will show an advancing tendency, un less meantime there should be de cline In the East such as to permit of shipments to the Coast. The time has w come when all local products have to be carefully candled, for storage and or the regular trade, and dealers say that the percentage that now has to be thrown out Is such as to be something of a factor in the market. ' The Willamette and Clackamas riv ers are now yielding plenty of sal mon for the local trade, and the chances are that there will be no further shortsge of thst fish between now and the opening of the season on the Columbia, May 1. No chsnges In salmon prices were announced to day, but the market was a ahade easier thsn for some time past. The supply of other fish generally was adequate. Halibut is coming In free ly from the north and no change from the low prices of the past two weeks is expecteJ soon, . WHOLESALE PRICKS. Orain, Plour..Hay, Etc.
