THE LOGICAL RECALL
rounded with every concciveable

HAMMERS, AND HAMMERERS
There are hammers, and hammers!.
(In Astoria.)
There are hammerers and hammer

It is very essential that adequate
and correct distinction shall be made
among them; especially by the ham

hammering; there are some things
that are hammered inadvertently;
and a few things that are never ham

' The hammerer is often engaged in
the -best work of his citizenship when
he is hammering the right thing, (or
rather the, thing that is wrong); and

when he mis-hammers a thing; just

Attorney General Wickersham Asks
For Appropriation. '
WASHINGTON M.arch 26At-

ing upon Congress the necessity of a
special appropriation of $25,000 dur
ing the present extra session for the
payment of salaries and fees of spec

with the work of his department.
During the regular session an ap

this purpose, but it has since been
discovered that this sum will not be
sufficient to pay the attorneys up to
'he beginning of the next fiscal year,
and Mr. Wickersham asserts that un

made the work of the attorneys soon
will have to be discontinued, a con

with the work of this department.

WASHINGTONTMarch 26.-The
world's commerce was considerably
lower in 1908 than in 1907, according
to a statement issued by the Bureau
of statistics of the Department of
Commerce and Labor. The figures
of the imports and exports in all the
principal countries, it is stated, re
vealed a falling off. In the United
States for example, imports show a
fall of 256,000,000 and exports of 238,-

previous year. . In Germany the im

Asking For Reduced Rail Rates On
Certain Confections.
CHICAGO, March 26--The Na
tional Confectioners Association and
twenty other confectionery manufac
turers and associations have filed a
petition with the Interstate Com
merce Commission asking for a re
duction of the rates on all kinds of
confectionery. They ask that the
grades of candy rated as first class
be changed to third class and the
third class to fifth class. They say
that the present classification en
courages the manufacture and sale of
cheap and inferior confectionery and
that it is a discrimination against the
small dealer. All of the large west
ern roads are made defendants.
