Hia Eighty-feighth Year "
Mr. A. Montgomery ,of this city,
has passed his 87th milestone in a
long and useful life, and the Morning
Astorian does not begrudge the octo
genarian the yearly record in itt col

ing for many' a year to come. ' Mr.
Montgomery marked his '88th annual
by concluding a nice comfortable real
estate deal with C. W. Waterman,
which is likely to redound to the gra
tification of both parties sooner or
later, the sale and purchase of the 75

in excellent condition. There were
about 35 in attendance last night. The
only other matter of importance to
arise was a difference that has been
outstanding between , the. Carpenters'
Union and Axel Johansen, the con
tractor, hich had been placed before
the Council for final settlement or ac
tion. It is alleged that Mr. Johnson
has been working nonunion carpenters
and that he also has employed more
apprentices than he is entitled to ac
cording to the union regulations. It
was voted to place Mr. Johansen on
the unfair list, as it was deemed by
the Council that further negotiations''
in relation to the differences would be
useless at this: time. ' . !
