BIG AND WONDERFUL CHRIST
MAS TREE AT ST. MARY'S
CHURCH HALL
, The hall at St. Mary's Catholic
church was crowded Monday night
with perhaps 100 little folks and half
as many of their elders who had gath
ered there to join in the Christmas
tree festivities. It was a merry time,
a merry time tor both young and old.
In one corner of the hall was a
Christmas tree that reached from the
floor to the ceiling, and it was aflame
with tinsel and shiny golden things,
and with candles, and heavy with ti
membrances for the little ones. In
connection with the festivities there
was a program which added much to
the pleasure of the evening. This
consisted of a recitation by Master I
Robinson, violin playing by F. and E.
Lindstrom, a Telephone Message,
by Paulin Duncan, and with musical
accompaniment by Mrs. Brooks.
Then appeared the most distin
guished guest of the night Through
the door suddenly walked in Santa
Clans, all in furs, with a big white
beard, with big top-boots, and loaded
down with things for' the little folks.
In private life Santa Claus is Mr.
Charles Anderson, steward at St
Mary's hospital, and nature has gen
erously given Mr. Anderson many
qualities that make it easy for him to
be a typical Santa, not the least of
which are hi laugh and his jollity.
He had jokes and quips for all the
little ones, and fun for the elders as
welL One of the funniest features of
the evening was the telephone con
versations Santa Claus had with his
"brother" over the phone, which eon
vulsed the little ones. Father Waters
and many of his parish were present.
A fireman was also present, as a pre
cautionary measure in case of any in
flammable material catching alight
