S0B31T LEVY LIXELY
TO IE 18 IIS
WILL REQUIRE JUST ABOUT AS
MUCH MONEY AS FOR THE
YEAR 1903.
Announcement was made by Judge
Trenchard yesterday that the county
aourt will probably make a county
levy of 18 mill for the coming year.
Last vear the county levy was 27
mills.
The probable levy of 18 mills on the
greatly increased valuation for the
coming year will oring in a suguuy
larger sum than was brought in last
year by the levy of 27 nulls 00 the
smaller valuation. The state tax for
the ensuing year will be about $3000
larger, and hence this makes an ap
preciable showing in the formation of
the levy.
Generally speaking the county court
is evidently figuring on raising just
about as much money for the year
1909 as it did for the year 1908.
The following tabulated statement
show the figures of the present year
and for the ensuing year.
19C8 1909
City.... 18 10.8
School 12 7
County 27 18
including the estimated levy of 18
mills for the county, will therefore be
3S.8 mills, and the lower levy of the
ensuing year is calculated to bring in
just about as much money as the 57
mills of the present year. Because of
the great amount of road building
that is going on it is evident the
members of the county court are not
finding themselves able to get along
with less money. The city levy is
also as large for the coming year as
for the present, and the school levy
is only slightly less. It looks as .f
the taxpayers will have to pay just
about as much for the coming year,
but in the county, it Is pointed out.
the residents are getting in return
system of roads not excelled in the
State of Oregon.
