The Daily Market Report
PORTLAND, Doc. 22. In hides, at
in most other lines the market la 'jl
ways quiet at this time of the year,
and local dealers say the present dull
ness la UVIy to ntcnd Into January.
The kalher trade in a large way gov
erns the bide market, and manufactur
ers generally at this season are clos
ing the irnisineas of the year and pre
paring for that of the year to come.
With the city retailers pretty me'i
stocked with turkeys for the Christ
mas trade, the Front street market
was comparatively quiet today, but
the ouotcd prices, 22 to 25 cents a
pound, were fairly well maintained.
With the demand for the time
chiefly for turkeys, slocks of hens and
chickens on the street are consider
ably in excess of requirements and the
market is m weak affair.
