wedding this evening at the home of

the newly married people will settle
down in Astoria at onca and make

few day' visit. Mr. Kendall is now

Many Walks of Life.
PITTSBURG, Dec 19. -The ac
ceptance by Senator Knox, of the
portfolio of secretary of state," has
precipitated an interesting battle be
tween ambitious Republicans of this
vicinity and has stirred into action
every faction of the Republican party.
It is pointed out that while a major
ity of the legislators elected last
vember were pledged to support Sena
tor Penrose for re-election, the pr-cr
ability of Mr. Knox leaving the Sea-

therefore the members are free to ex
ercise their own wills in choosing his
successor.
