long time between wholesalers and

of lively speculation. In any event
the market lr unnettled, and some of
the reports that are In circulation
would seem to Indicate that It Is
verginu toward demoralization.
The trouble started about two
years' ago, when some of the younger
firms. In the retail trade began hay
upplies In a small way In the coun
try and taking proportionately less
from the regular wholcmilcrs who
hitherto had practically controlled
ihe business of buying and bringing
to the city the hay needed for the
local trade, n the course of a year
a number of the older wholesalers
who had been In, th business for years
began to feel the effect of the free
lauce operations of the newcomers,
for their trade fell away materially,
and In the oast 12 months the situa-
tyti from their point of view has
rown iteadily worse.
