The Daily Market Report
ORTLAND, Aug. 19 What Ore-
Jon apples will be worth at the open-
ing of the market for the staple fruit
crop thin fall is for the present a
matter of speculation, and fruit men
have various views of the situation.
On the whole It would ntcm that the
prospect U not unite so favprablc as
at this time a year ago, though the
high quality of the Oregon fruit thin
year will he a factor In the fixing of
prices,
There Is a fair average crop this
year In practically nil , the apple
Itates, of the Union, with a showing
distinctly above the average In some
of the Western states, notably In Ore
gon, and here also the fruit this year
will grade a little higher than usual.
Last year apples were more or less a
failure In many of the Atlantic and
Middle Western states, where this
year there Is generally a full crop.
It js estimated that the total yield
of apples of the United States this
year will be 50,000,000 barrels.
Poultry generally has moved bet
ter this week than last week, and
prices aho have shown a slight up
ward tendency. Today good hens

Brgn's Suspension a Less.
The Brooklyn Nationals have been
greatly weakened by the absence of
Catcher Billy Bergen. In a recent
game in Cincinnati Bergen threw his

usually one of the coolest. men playing

was so "raw" that he simply conld
not control himself. Tho mask episode,
nowever, was reported to Harry Pul

been suspended indefinitely by tbe Na

la to be hoped it will prove a (rood
though severe lesson to him.
