I Right at the Moutta of the Columbia River
That OIL and natural GAS have been discovered in paying quantities across the Columbia River from Astoria at Onieda,
Washington, has been important enough to a number of well-known reliable parties'to cause the organization of the Pacific
Coast Gas & Oil Co., with a capital stock of $300,000. This company has just placed a'number of shares of stock on the market
at the low price of $50.00 per share. READ ON--

What the Company Is
The Pacific Coast Cat & Oil Co. it
compelled of reliable buiineii men of
Oregon and Washington whose only
purpose li to develop the property to
the best of iti ability and produce a
paying mine of oil and gai that all
who have purchased atock may share
in iti profits. The officers serve with
out salary and include among them
some of the most reputable citizens
of the State. To make the company
strong on account of its brilliant fu
ture it has aecured leases on over
fiOOO acrea of land. It has obtained
the highest expert authority on the
geological formation of the land,
employed the strongest expert work
men to operate the drilling apparatus
and given such other evidence of good
faith to warrant any man making an
investment with them.

is being done under
the supervision of
two expert oil well

StocK for Sale
For Development Pa 03e
The per value of the stock is $100
per share, but is now offered at one
half ($30) and it is worth it The
company has already sold a limited
amount of stock, equipped the prop
erty with the best working machinery
in the world and it has plans for a
great future. The money secured
from the sale of stock will be to push
the work. Every dolar will be used
to prepare for the best interest of the
company. As the drill goes down the
stock will surely rise. The price it is
now offered at will only be a short
time. A good rule is to let oppor
tunity in when it knocks at the door.
For an investment there is nothing
more tangible, brighter or more surer
dvidend paying than this stock, par
ticularly at $50 per share ' Don't wait
until it goes to par, but buy now. It
is really a chance that comes seldom.

Many Acci-
to-day of a good part of its moving
business population. Not since the
days of the Spanish War has a sharp
and wide a call ben made upon the
civilian soldiers here as that which
has hustled off hundreds of train
loads of volunteers to keep pace with
the regulars down the bay and up at
Pine Camp. Real work, in steady and
large doses, is being meted out to
the swells of the crack troops from
this city; and while they manoevre
under the stern eye of regular army
oflicers, the clubs, cafes and promen
ades are " largely abandoned. That
these occasional troopers are game,
is being reported from the army
proving grounds, where once more
the metropolitan clubman has shown
pert cracksman. Whether an adult
gang is behind little Herbert Weis
sncr, to whom the police give credit
for a startling career of burglary, the
detectives have not yet found, It is
believed that during a term in the re
formatory last year the youngster
formed associations which have allied
him for life with a strong gang of
criminals. In this case the judges are
shaking their heads and predicting
that it is too late to take from the
rosy-cheeked boy the taint and habit
of crime. In hundreds of other cases,
they point out, citizenship in" the
George Junior Republic up at Free
ville has robbed of all distinction the
criminal exploits of boys taken in
time .from association with crooks,

The
General Demand
of the Well-informed of the World has
always been for a simplo, pleasant and
efficient liquid laxative romedy of known
value; a laxative which physicians could
sanction for family use because its com
ponent parts are known to them to be
wholesome and tndy beneficial in effect,
acceptable to tho eystom and gentle, yet
prompt, in action.
In supplying that demand with its ex
cellent combination of Syrup of Figs and
Elixir of Senna, the California Fig Syrup
Co. proceeds along ethical linos and relies
on the merits of tho laxative for its remark
able success. "

cent as it is of all the loss and part-it is believed, a try at this little le
ing of the late war days, this military mocracy might, have relieved this
youthful burglar of the pounds of
punishment which the state must im
pose. TRIFLING AT THROTTLES
"Joy riding" as the secret spin of
the chaff cur have come to be cata
loguedhas again cost four lives and
menaced more, in the case of the
touring car, run amuck, which is just
being raised from the bed of the
Hudson River at West 56th Street.
When this runaway automobile
dumped four souls to death the other
night there was some surprise on"Thc
West Side. As the facts of the youth
and inexperience of the chauffeur are
being revealed to-day, however, even
motor-hardened' New Yorkers stand
exodus has stirred people here un

WEAVING A WAY.
Over two tiny strands of wire, that
have just been strung between the
gigantic steel towers of the new
Manhattan Bridge, the spinning of
this monster viaduct has been begun
to-day. Wire by wire, strand by
strand and cable by cable, the whole
hanging structure is to be woven high
in air over the broad East River. For
the better part of two years it is ex
pected that this ceaseless shuttling of
fresh wire into woof and web will i
go on before another highway lies
open between Brooklyn and Manhat

spun hardly a stone's throw from the aghast, With scarce three weeks of
old Brooklyn Bridge, traffic is al- apprenticeship, a beardless boy was
ready pent up and pressing for this
double outlet between boroughs. For
years the skeleton of the present
Williamsburgh Bridge hung in- just
this weaving process, before the wait
ing traffic-tide could rush across its
broad expanse. If the river itself
were drained to dry highway, it seems
as though every foot of its passage
might soon be crowded by the pres9
of Gotham's multitude.

be abated by law.
LOSING A LANDMARK

good old Everett House has at last
been officially declared dead to-day.

stood for half a century, attracting
the rich and royal-bom to the old

it, a smug, steep skyscraper is soon
to mark this corner of Union Square.
Bed-ridden Sufferer Completely Cured
by Use of D. D. External Wash.
One of the most remarkable Ecze
ma cures recently credited to the
well known D. D. D. Prescription has
just been recorded in Chicago.
Mrs. E. Hegg, 1550, West Madison
street, under date of December 9,
1907, writes as follows:
"I suffered three years with Weep
ing Eczema. It started with a little
spot on my knees and spread fast
over my whole body. I spent hun
dreds of dollars and went to every
good doctor I heard of, but kept
getting -worse. Nothing would stop
the awful itch and burning.
"I had to stay in "bed from the
middle of May to the middle of July.
Then I tried D. D,' D. Prescription.
This is the 9th of December and I am
entirely free from the terrible dis
ease. D. D. D. saved my life.
"When I began this treatment,
people were afraid of me I looked so
terrible. My husband was the only
one who would take' care of me. D.
D. D. stopped the itch at once so I
could sleep, which I had not done
before. Then I began to get bet
ter fast and now my skin is clear
and white, not a spot anywhere."
Just a few drops of D. ' D. D.
Prescription applied to the skin
brings retief nothing to swallow or
drink. We vouch for D. D. D. Pre
scription, also the cleansing D. D. D.
