At the clone of the performance at
the Star theatre lat Sunday evening
Mr. and Mrs, Rosenberg entertained
a large number of friends at their
home on Eleventh treet in honor of
Mr. Lawrence Friti. The evening
was spent in a delightfully social
manner, the gueits joining in playing
games, in vocal and instrumental
muic, and conversation. At midnight
art excellent luncheon was served.

Mr Fred Simington returned last
week from an extended visit with re-
latj'ves and friends in Colorado.
Miss Gertrude Sinnott of this city

Mis Alice Cearns, who has been a
student at St. Mary's the past
school year, ha arrived home to
spend vacation.
The members of the Missionary
Society of the First Presbyterian
Church held a very enjoyable meet
ing on Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Wilson on West Duane
utreet. Mrs. R. M. Gaston had charge
of the program which consisted of
addresses and papers bearing on the
missionary work being carried on in
Alaska and South America. Mrs
Wootcn read a very interesting and
instructive paper on Alaska. Mrs,
ienenweber responded with a
iper relative to the work from a
miXionarv standpoint. Miss Laura
Fastabend gave a piano solo and the
discussion became general. Mis
Warren's talk was on South America,
and Mrs. Fastabend read an account
given by a returned explorer from the
"Heart of Africa." At the close of
the program Mrs. Wilson served a
sumptuous luncheon. About two doz
en ladies were present at the meeting
and thoroughly enjoyed the enter
tainment.
The Woman's Christian Temper
mice Union held flower mission day
exercises at its rooms on Exchange
street Thursday afternoon. The at
tendance was good. Mrs. T. L. Ball
had charge of the exercises which
were pleasing. The members brought
many beautiful bouquets which were
at the close of the business meetings,
distributed to the sick and unfortun
ate ones of our city.
Mrs. Kinsey leaves tomorrow
morning to visit friends on the

Mrs. A, A. Douglas leaves tomor
row afternoon for Newport, Ore,, to
attend the state convention of , the

Mr. and Mrs. Ridehalgh gave an
informal supper after the Philhar
monic concert Thursday evening,
with Mr. John Claire Monteith as
the guet of honor.

Mr. C. V. Karr and son are at
their Cray's River ranch where they
will spend several months,
Last Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. T. Hanger in Portland, the
wedding of Miss Jennie Matilda Lin
enberg and Mr. Fritz Alfred Johan
son took place. The ceremony was
witnessed by relatives and many
friends of the contracting parties.
Mr. and Mrs. Johanson have arrived
in Astoria and will reside at their
beautiful new home at 108 Exchange
street.
A very enjoyable and successful
social was given on last Monday
night by the Scandinavian Temper
ance Society at the Norwegian Free
Lutheran Church. An attractive pro
gram consisting of addresses by Rev.
G, Blessum. Rev. 0. T. Field and
Mr. Albert Carlson a vocal solo by
Miss Annie Bue, songs by the quar
tette from the Norwegian Singing
Society, the Norwegian Methodist
and Free Church choirs, and the
Sunday school classes from these
churches. After the program some
time was spent in -a social manner
and m the enjoyment of the lunch
served by the ladies of both churches.
Mrs. Isaac Bergman attended the
Pythian Sisters' convention in Port
land this week.
Miss Verona McGowan of Port
land is in the city the guests of her
brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Clark.
Mrs. Swanson has returned from a
two weeks' visit with Portland
friends.
Miss D. Nellie Byrd of O'Hamia
station spent several days in town
this week.

noon club were entertained this past
week by Mrs. I. N. Carman and Mrs.
Charles A. Hcilborn at the Ileilborn
home on Irving avenue. The after
noon passed delightfully for. those

The D. M. C. D. club members
held another of thgir delightful meet
ings on Friday evening at the resi
dence of Dr. and Mrs. J. M., Holt on
Grand avenue, with Miss Fossett as
hostess. This meeting was designat
ed as a vaudeville advertising party
and each guest in attendance was ar
rayed in a character costume. The
one best demonstrating the character
portrayed, receiving a prize. Other

Mrs. John McGowan of Ilwaco and
Mrs. Horace Thing of McGowan

the Philharmonic Society Friday
evening, Friday afternoon Mrs. Dun
bar entertained a few friends at her
home on Eleventh street in honor of
her sisters.

Mrs. Frederick Barker charmingly
entertained the members of the
Christian Endeavor Society of the
First Presbyterian Church and a
large number of invited friends at
her home on Seventeenth Street
Friday evening. The guests spent the
time in happy conversation, playing
games and music. Mr. Gilnet gave
vocal selection, Mr. Anderson re
cited, Miss Ruth Garner sang and
Miss Army Rannels gave piano
selections, Light refreshments were
served during the evening and the
many present expressed themselves
as having had a delightful time.

A very delightful dancing party
was given in Logan hall Friday even
ing by the Athletic Association of the
Astoria High School. Over 200 in
vhations had been issued for the oc
casion and the attendance was large.
The hall was handsomely decorated
in class colors, with the electric
lights in colored globes. Excellent
music was furnished by the Pacific
orchestra, the dancing continuing
until midnight. Light refreshments
were served by the young ladies of
the association. The hostesses for
this occasion were Miss Fanny Greg'
ory and Miss Wilma Young who were
ably assisted by Melville Morton,
Lawrence Rogers, Lester Balland,
Kenneth Parker, Edwin Short and O.
Jeldness. The patronesses were Dr.
Clara Reames, Mrs. George H. Ohler,
Mrs. J. T. Allen, Mrs. Nate Tallant
and Mrs. C. V, Brown.

a pupil at St Mary's Academy, Port
land, for the past year, is home to
spend vacation with her mother,
Mrs. Katherine Wade.

evening from several weeks' visit in

ment exercises of the Astoria High
School will be held in the Astoria
opera house, the coming Friday even
ing, June 26.

The sophomore class of the High
School, gave a jolly tally-ho ride last
Saturday afternoon, going as far as
Spikanon where they dined sumptu
ously. The young people hired the
Merwyn 'bus and on their return to
the city, a tired but happy crowd,
had their conveyance beautifully dec
orated with Scotch bloom. Miss
Hulse acted as chaperone on this oc
casion.
The junior class gave a launch
party Monday afternoon with Miss
Huse and Mrs. Lindenberg as chape
rones. All report having had a jolly
time.
