    THE MORNING ASTORIAN, ASTORIA, OREGON.
SPECIAL OFFER WILL
RUN TILL THURSDAY
List of Nominations.
TUESDAY. MAY 19, 1908.
Many of the Candidates Are in
Favor of it
The l'w special flcr to increase
vote, now in vogue, will not close
Monday, but will continue till Thurs
day night, May 21t tip to 8 p. m,
Owing to the fact that omc of the
candidates did not have the time to
take advantage of the special offer up
to date on account of the bad weather
it has been thought best to continue
the special up to Thursday. This will
give each and every candidate a
chance to secure the extra votes.
But five days remain in which to
take advantage of the special offer,
These five days should be filled with
earnest endeavors to net as many six
months and yearly subscribers as pos
sible. Twenty or fifty thousand votes
may win some young lady the automo
bile or the piano and if the votes
ywhich win it would have been
secured in this offer, the can
didate would be thankful in
deed, for the opportunity af
forded this week. A number of the
candidates are already entitled to the
extra votes and several others have
but one or two subscriptions yet to
go. It should be no trouble at all to
get five new ones within the next four
days and thus be entitled to 20,000
votes, The opportunity here afford
ed is the last one of its kind to be
made and those who fail to take ad
vantage of it will lose one of the best
chances of the contest.
A great deal of credit is due the
young ladies In the race for their un
tiring zeal and energy. Of course the
rice is now on and a large number of
candidates have come into the contest
to win.
The number of votes cast grows
hourly and reports from all over the
county confirm the report that the
contest is gaining new friends daily.
None of the contestants are losing
hope. The contest is now well ad
vertised and every man, woman and
child is aroused to meet the demands
by the young ladies who are solicit
ing votes and subscriptions.
A difference of a few thousand votes
is nothing, as that means but a couple
of yearly subscriptions and there is a
good long time remaining to secure
subscriptions and close the chasm
which now separates those in other
positions from first place. Many peo
ple are willing to help the young
ladies and are onl waiting to be asked
to do so. The first candidates to ask
for the subscriptions are the ones who
will get them, so it is imperative that
those who desire to enlarge their
count get out among the people and
make their cause known.
saved the annoyance of weekly and
monthly collections. By so doing you
receive a special vote ballot which it
good any time during the contest
Orders for the prize will be given
the successful contestants at the
close of the contest; same may be
used by the contestant herself or
disposed of in any manner she may
see fit
Any young lady residing, in the
above mentioned territory is eligible
to compete in this contest.
Anyone who desires to vote in this
contest may do so by ballots cut
from the Daily and Weekly Astorian,
or by special vote coupon obtained
by subscribing to the Astorian. The
coupons secured by subscribing to
the Astorian may be held at long aa
desired and voted at any time up to
the desired close of the contest, but
ballots cut from the Astorian are only
good for one week from publication
and will not be counted if voted after
the date printed on the ballot.
Persons living in one district are
not confined to voting for ladies in
their own particular district, but may
vote for anybod- in the race.
The offer affords the girls of A-
toria and surrounding territory an
excellent opportunity to travel or re
ceive a business education at the ex
pense of the Astorian.

FRANK J. DONNERBERG.
Frank J. Donnerberg, who several
months ago opened a handsome jew
elry store at 574 Commercial street,
has won a reputation that has brought
him what is perhaps the best trade in
the city. After 16 years' experience in
the large jewelry and watchmaking
stores of San Francisco and Portland.
Mr. Donnerberg came to Astoria and
opened a small place at 110 Eleventh
street, confining himself largely ' to
repairing watches, and carrying
small stock of jewelry and watches.
His customers found him a good
watchmaker and discovered they were
given fair treatment and patronized
him liberally, enabling him to in
crease his stock rapidly. Mr. Donner
berg is a broad-minded business man,
and his up-todate stock includes all
the newest styles which he purchases
from New York and San Francisco
wholesalers, and his establishment is
a credit to the city.
