PINES FOR LIBERTY.

rOUGHKEEFSlE, May 16.
Harry Thaw's plea for liberty from
the Matteawnn Insane Asylum where
he has been confined since his acquit
tal for the murder of Stanford White
on the ground of insanity will prob
ably be decided by Judge Morschatt
ser on Monday, May 25. The hearing
in the habeas corpus proceedings
by Thaw ended late tonight after
District tAtorney Jerome had made a
sensational request that Thaw whom
he had called to the stand, permit his
alienist to examine him and judge of
his mental condition because they had
no opportunity to converse with the
defendant. Thaw was not permitted
to respond, the court instructing him
not to do so. The judge suggested
however that Thaw could confer with
counsel and perhaps they might de
cide it was'wise to grant the request.
Until the judge decides the case he is
to remain in the custody of the sher-
ff's office. This means that he will
ontinne to occupy Sheriff Shcnler's
private rooms in the Duchess County
court house. Which ever way the
case is decided it will be appealed.
