NEW YORK, April 29.-The pub
lic service commission began yester
day the work of seeing that the cars
of the traction lines of the city are
thoroughly equipped with safety de
vices to the end that the number of
accidents may be reduced. The com
mission directed all the traction com
panies to file before May 10 complete
statements, also the ' number and
kinds of cars owned and the detailed
equipment of those cars.
