The Morning Astorian announces a popular contest that will eclipse anything' of its kindever conducted
in this part of the country. First Grand Prize, one $1200.00 Automobile; Second Grand Prize, one 500.00
Piano ;Five trips, one in each district; Five scholarships on the Behnke-Walker Business College, Portland,
Oregon, one in each district; Five gold watches, one in each district. To give all an opportunity we have
divided the City .'of Astoria and the t surrounding territory into five districts, and the most popular ladies in
these district will receive the above grand1 prizes. A person who subscribes for a month, six months or a
year gets extra vot6s, besides the vote in the paper, from 40 to 5000. Special ballots issued at this office.

MORNING ASTORIAN Contest Manager before Saturday, May 2,
1908. THE MORNING ASTORIAN reserves the right to reject any
objectionable nominations. v. ' .
$65.00 VALUE TO NOAUNATIONS
The Morning Astorian will give to each person making a nomination
which proves to be that of the winner of any of the prizes of this contest, one
year's subscription to the Morning Astorian. Any person has the privilege of
nominating one or more candidates. Nominations should be mailed to the
Morning Astorian Contest Manager before April 26, as the names of the can-
didates will be published on that date. Candidates can be nominated after
I this date but it is a great advantage for each candidate to have her name m
I the first list published, so that friends may not agree to work for someone else
not knowing who are entered in the contest It absolutely costs nothing to
nominate a candidate.
Who May Enter This Great Contest
Any young lady under 35 years of age is eligible, providing conditions
set forth below are complied with.
. Every candidate must be regularly nominated on the blank printed on this
page or a similar one furnished by this paper. ,
Candidates must reside in the -district or territory from which nominated.
No candidate will be permitted to'transfer votes to another after receiving
them for themselves. 1
The right is reserved to withdraw the offer in any district where only
one candidate is nominated or voter for.

Ballots sent in for names not properly nominated will be destroyed
uncounted. , ' ,
A' ballot will be printed every day during the life of contest This ballot
will count one vote. All ballots will be dated, and will be devoid unless re
ceived at the Morning Astorian office or on or before the expiration date as
printed. AH ballots must be sent direct to the Contest Manager of the Morn
ing Astorian, postage fully prepaid. No employe of the Morning Astorian or
member of any employe's family will be eligible as a candidate. Any success
ful candidate shall have the right to name a substitute subject to our approval
if unable to take the trip. .
The decision of the contest manager as to the award of the prizes shall
be final and conclusive. :'
In accepting nominations all candidates must accept and agree to abide by
the above conditions. ' r"
In case of any contestants receiving the same number of votes and there
is a tie, both contestants will receive the same prizes.
Remember,, each district will receive one trip, one scholarship and one watch, regardless of the votes cast in any other district however, no contestant will
7 receive more than one prize.
The winning of these magnificent prizes is not a question of money. It is the result'of extensive acquaintance, loyal friendship and enthusiastic co-operation. Hundreds of young' ladies have many warm friends who will unite
in an effort to win the beautiful $1200 automobile or a $500 piano, for them the tim"e is short in seven weeks from the first publication of the names of candidates, prizes will be won. Be a winner. You risk nothing and may
gain much. Think how much it is worth to win a $1200 automobile or a $500 piano-a trip or a scholarship in seven weeks and solely as the result of votes of admiring friends. You can, if you will be one of the fortunate winners

HOW THE PRIZES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED
The automobile will be awarded to the young lady receiving the greatest number of votes in the five districts.' The piano, the second grand prize, will be awarded to the young lady receiving the second largest vote in the five
districts. The trips one .in each district the lady standing second, will receive the scholarship and third will each receive the gold watch. . ' "

First district will include all the City of Astoria east of Twenty-second street; second district will include all the City of Astoria east of Ninth street to Twenty-second; third district will include all the City of Astoria west of
Ninth street to city limits; fourth district includes the towns of Ilwaco and Chinook; fifth district Includes the towns of Warrenton, Hammond and Seaside, , . . v .'
