so far as armories are concerned,1
laid Adjutant-General W. E. Finzer,
in pn interview toda yon the aubject
of the Armory trill. "The State not
ony suffers the inconvenience of be
ing a tenant but la paying out thou
land of dollar! in rent! that should
be going to the construction of pej
rnanent state armories.
'Leaving aside the patriotic mo
lives, which should cause every voter
to lend all support to the Nationa
Cftiard, now a part of the first of
National defense, the economic as
pects of the bill should serve to carry
it at the June election. At the prei
ent time Oregon has rented armories
in 12 cities outside Portland. These
armories are not suitable for military
purposes and yet they cost the state
$5000 per year.
"The Armory bill seta aside $25,000
per year for four years for the build
ing of permanent armories. Thus the
total appropriation is $100,000. It
"doesn't take much figuring to show
that in a few years the State would be
ahead on the deal and that the ar
mory bill, aside from providing a
necessity, makes the way for a good
investment."

Whon a rooster finds a big fat

similar trait of human nature U to
be observed when a man discovers

This is the touch of nature that

STEPHEN F. ROQUA DEAD. .
CHICAGO, April 18.-Stephen F.
' Roqua, founder of Roqua & Sons,
general agents, died yesterday after a
brief , illness. Mr. Roqua was born
at Tarrytown, N. Y., in 1837 and came
west to Chicago in 1864. -
It is not only possible but being
done everywhere. Exercise, unless
carefully superintended by a physician
mi expert wmctic director, may
easily do a deal of harm to the great
overburdened fleshy body. The un-.
tutored fat man and woman deter
mined, to get thin are only too likely
to overstrain their fat encumbered
muscles by theirawkward, ill-advised
gymnastics, and so cause nerve and
muscle troubles that may develop
into something far worse than a little
too much flesh. Same way with diet
ing. Starvation is certainly effective
if kept up long and faithfully enough,
but it is almost certain to injure the
nutritive process and so weaken the
patient constitutionally, while it is
abdominable torture, of course, es
pecially to a good-natured, high-living,
fleshy man or woman.
