Amended Rail Tariffs and , Their
Time of .Operation. I '

the A. & C. R. R. Company has re
ceived amendments to transconti
nental freight tariffs, east and west
bound, making common point rates
to and from all Eastern terminals ap
plicable to and from Astoria on prac
tically all commodities, via the new
North Bank road, the Spokane, Port
land and Seattle, frjm Vancouver to
Kennewick. Special (tariffs, covering
canned salmon become effective
March 30, and the eastbound lumber
tariff SR-963, becomes effective i via
the new line on April 2?. Other
special tariffs are being amended as
rapidly as it is possible to give the
statutory notice to t-.thj Interstate
Commerce Commission. Until the
completion of the bridges across the
Columbia and Willamette riven at
Vancouver arid; Portland traffic will
be handled Yrbm -Kalama to Van
couver by. the Northern Pacific and
through train service, has-been ar
ranged for between' Kalama and
Kennewick, majang .eiose connec
years. This new oulltt will be ap
preciated by Astoria! shippers and
will no doubt be liberally patronized.
