anyone iu New York who is willing to
come to the defense of women who de
kire to smoko- in public restaurant, he
or she, will have an opportunity to be
heard on Monday, when the committee
on laws ami legislation of the Board of
Aldermen will give a public hearing on
the ordinance Introduced by Alderman
Sullivan making it a misdemeanor for
retaurant or hotel keepers to allow
women to smotco in public rooma. The
ordinance ia the result of the recent
action of several Broadway restaurants
iu removing the ban on women smoking
in the public dining rooms.
It is stated that a number of min
isters will appear at the meeting in
favor of the passage of the ordinance.
Sooner or later the young man who

bers of the family, while asleep, bur

got away with the money. Shortly af
lerwanl the seven members of James
Bergin's family, who live in Twenty
first: street, were also chloroformed.
The burglars here only secured a watch
and chain and 14 in money.
