A large ' and appreciative audience
greeted the appearance of the "Basket
Ball Club" of the High School on Fri
day nigU in the National Association
hall in Uppertown, the occasion being
rendering of the "Football Play" and
'Rag-time Concert." Under the capable
management of Miss Fanny Gregory,
ably assisted by her classmates, the
evenings entertainment iwas A docided
success from start to finish and netted
a , handsome sum for the enterprising
young women. The play, a one-act
comedy entitled "Girls' Football" was
written by Miss Gregory and is deserv
ing of much praise. Twelve characters
wepe represented in this charming bit
of noting which was enthusiastically
received. The 'hit of the evening was
the- character song "Don't Care" also by
Miss Gregory. The different numbers on
the program were all well rendered and
rebcived their meed of praise. At tha
close of the program the young people
engaged in dancing for several hours, It
is the intention of the club to arrange
in the near future, for visits to Astoria,
of high school organizations of other
towns, to engage in debates and literary
exercises.' -

hunt on Friday night at a very delight
ful "Wbinl Party" given by Gateway
Social Club In the I. O. 0. F. lodge
room. About one hundred and thirty
live guests were present, twenty-nine
tables lx-ing tilled with players. At 10:30
o'clock the prises were distributed.

ning the ladies' prizes and Allan Hughes
and Captain Gmiderson those given to
the gentlemen. Refreshments consisting
of delicious cake and coffee were served
at the card tables. Later the floor was
cWred anil dancing and games were In
dulged in until a late hour.

given last night in the National Associa
tion hall in Uppertown by the Ladles'
Leap Year Club, Over 100 couples join
ed in the dancing. Messrs. Weston,
Lash and Murticn had the affair in
charge and all those present thoroughly
enjoyed the evening. Excellent music
was furnished by the Pacific orchestra,
