COMMERCIAL BODY WILL GIVE
SMOKER AT ANNUAL ELECTION
OF OFFICERS ON MONDAY NIGHT
NEXT.
The annual election of oflWrs will be
a smoker.
The object is to mnoke every member
out In attendance and in voting array.
The Chamber of Commerce cannot go
ahead without officers. Of course no
one expects it to, for it will have good
oftVers during the coming year just as
it has had during past years. But who
will they be! That is the question, and
the first thing on the tapis is the elec
tion of these oflk-crs.
The better the citisens do their work
at the annual election next Monday,
January Oth, it follows that better will
be the work the Chamber will thereafter
do during the remainder of the year.
The announcement of the annual
meeting, election and smoker has been
sent out in the following letter t all
the members:
"The annual meeting and election of
officers of the Chamber of Commerce
will take place Monday night, January
Oth, the meeting beginning at 7:30
o'clock. The annual reports will first
be heard and then the election of ofll
cers will be held, after which there will
lie a smoker.
"Every member is urgently requested
to be present and discharge his duty on
this occasion. It is especially desired
that the meeting shall be open and free
and that everyone present shall express
his opinions fully on any matter that
may eome op. It would be well to say
ves when you mean yes and no when
you mean'so, so that there may be the
best understanding concerning the will
of the members about the work for the
present year.
"The secretary would appreciate it if
you would write any suggestions you
may have on a slip of paper and enclose
it in an envelope and send it to him.

A Seaside Tragedy
Early yesterday morning the remains
of a well known workingman of .Sea
side, were found floating face-downward
in the Necanicum river just back of the
Hotel Xloguine, and about forty feet
from where the rutin had a shack of his
own. If in name was Henry It. Shnniii'H,
and he was a carpenter by trade ami a
good workman when he was sober, but
whs badly given to liquor us a general
thing, and as it Inter proved, this fail
ing contributed to his death.
Word was sent to County Coroner W.
C. A. Pub I, who mcnt down to the const
city on the noon express and immediate
ly summoned a coroner's jury to in
quire into the circumstances of the
death. After hearing all the testimony
that would throw any light on the sub
ject. Coroner Pohl sent to the record a
verdict of accidental death, the tcsti
money showing that Shannes had been
drinking for sometime past, had been
missed for three days, and the absence
of all signs of violence contributing to
the conclusion.
It seems the man's home was in Ann
Arbor, Michigan, and that he has re
latives there; and to them Coroner
Pohl has wired for instruction as to
what shall be done with the body. The
coroner remained over in Seaside last
evening and will be up this morning
with the remains if an order is receiv
ed requiring its shipment to his old
home: and in default thereof, he will
order the interment to be made there.
Shanness had property in Kansas,
something like 1S2 acres of land upon
which he held a tax-receipt upon a
stated valuation of $30., and he had a
small amount of money.
