During these experiments messages transmitted from Poldhu were received across land and water (1) nearly as far as Kron tadt la the Gulf of Finland, Russia, a distance- of 1400 (2) at Gibraltar across tbe whole of Spain, over a distance of iwu mnes, ana (3) In tbe Mediterranean off the Coast of Corsica, over a dist ance of 1000 miles although the whole of Franca and part of the Alps inter red between the two stations. Mes sages in nearly all positions and places visited by the cruiser were received eith er on Mr. Marconi's" receiver, working a tape Instrument, or by means of his magnetic receiver. Tbe reports on these testa were signed by ''Admiral MJrabello, the present head of the Italian navj. Ait a result of the success of lime tents, the Italian minuter of ..marine at the request 'of the King of Italy, Issued orders that the "Carlo Alberto" should fie placed at Mr. Marconi's disposal for the purchase of assisting him in the t-talli-hnient of communication between Canada and England, On tho 20th of October, 1002, the "Carlo Alberto' left l'lymotith and sailed for Sydney, Nova Scotia, and messages were recuived from Poldhu throughout the voyage to,Syd ney, a distance of 2500 miles. After a few weeks' preliminary work at the station, which had in pursuance of arrangements made between the Cana dian government and Mr. Marconi, been erected at Glace Hay, Cape Breton, the following message was transmitted on uecemiier 10, 1H02, to the London Times by Dr. Parkin its own special correspondent. MARCONI, f "Glace Bay." On December 2p, 1007, from Lord Min- to, then Governor-General of Canada: "To Ills Majesty, the King, London? "May I be permitted by means of first wireless message to congratulate your Majesty on success of Marconi's great Invention connecting England and Canada. .. "(Signed), MJNTO." "Marconi, from Governor General's secretary r "Am dctdrcd by Governor-General to inform you that Ills Excellency had re ceived following cable from his Majesty! I am. much interested by the wireless montage which you have sent me, and, am delighted at the success of Slgnor Marconi's ; greatest Invention which brings Great Britain., and, Canada into etui closer connection , , "(Signed) EDWARD. The- following j a copy of King Ed ward's reply sent (fop reasons prev iously given) by cable: "To the President, White House, Wash ington. "I thank you most sincerely for the kind message I have just received from you through Signor Marconi's trans Atlantic wireless telegraphy.
