reopen the Farmer' 4 Driver'! Bank at
Wffeburg, Pa. Today the bank ex
aminer, John B. Cunningham, who cloe
the bank last December, declared that
he had found paper alleged to have
fceen forged amounting to $250,000. Of
thia $175,000 had been rediseounted and
vaa in other banks, while $75,000 was
fa the Farmer's & Driver's Bank.
The comptroller," he said," "will, no
doubt, require the bank to assume re
aponsibility for all forged paper found
in the bank.
RIOTS IN FRISCO.
Attempt to Force Car Ordinance Arouses
Trouble.
SAN FRANCISCO. Sept 20. There
were numerous -minor riot in the
Southern and Mission district last night
a the result of an attempt by the po
lice to, force an ordinance signed to
prevent the overcrowding of the street
care. When the police tried to carry
out the orders, the passenger aware of
the purpose and those perched on top
of the cars, refused to vacate their post
tions. Disturbances occurred at a dosen
.placen, but no one was seriously injur
ed. It is the intention of the police to
arrest all violators of the law if tne
ordinance is not observed.
BANDIT PURSUED BY RURALES.
HAVANA, Sept 20. Wounded and
deserted by most of his followers, Gil
Calderon, one of the most notorious
bandit chieftains Cuba has ever grown,
ia trying to rally his scattered band of
utlaws before the organization is com
pletely broken up by the victorious
rurales under Capt Wayato. While
aoccessful in his recent engagements
with CaWeron's forces, Mayato has
' asked for reinforcements that he may ex
terminate the entire body of cut
throats. The outlaws were surprised in camp
n Envado hill in the Cienfuegos dis
trict and, although they fought desper
ately, lost thirty men. about two-thirds
f their number, in killed and wounded.
The rurales" loss was about a dozen
men. Seven of the bands were cap
tured and are in jail awaiting trial.
Calderon had a hair-breadth escape,
and has thus far eluded the rurales'.
though he has been, seen in several
places since the fight. He was a major
in the revolutionary army in 1906 and
still profees to be commanding a force
of revolutionists against United States
domination.
DROWNED IN LAKE.
WEXATCHEE, Sept. 20. A young
awn by the name of McCormick was
drowned on Saturday at Moses Lake.
Little is known here regarding him of
the accident, although he used ti live
lere. His parents are well known here,
although at present they reside in Leavenworth."
CLAM CANNERIES.
WESTPORT, Sept.' 20. A large
amount of lumber has been piled on the
wharf here for the purpose of rebui'ding
the clam cannery belonging to Mr. Half
erty, which was burned to the ground
few months ago. His cannery at
Aberdeen is running full time.
The two other canneries here are run
ning full time, and employing full forces.
There is plenty of clams and the can
neries run full time, except when the
weather is so stormy it is impossible
to dig them.
WOUNDED WITH PAPER BULLET.
SPOKANE. Sept. 20. While engaged
in a sham battle at Old tort hponane,
where the garrison of Fort Wright is
now encamped, having gone there cn a

to Fort Wright this afteroon for treat
ment
In the sham battle Loeffler was one
of th attaekins narfcr and was injured
in atonning the ramparts. One of the
besieging party became too excited ana
fired while at close quarter.
ORDERED TO FURNISH CARS.
LINCOLN. Neb., Sept. 20.-The state
railwar commission today issued a for
mal order commanding the Willrcar A
Sioux Falls Railway Company to fur
nish cars at the stations along its line
for the shipment of gmin direst to
Omaha. This follows the complaint of
the Omaha train exchange, made some
time eo against the Great Northern
road, as owner of the Willmar A Sioux
Falls branch charging that it discrimi
nate against Omaha in furnishing cars
and making shipments of grain.
NAVIGATION AT END.
DAWSON. Sept. 20. The last of the
Northern navigation steamers from at.
Michaels this rear left there last Satur
day with supplies for all the winter
mail stations on the "Yukon River. All
freight coming from other Yukon points
via St. Michael ha been left at bV

other boats of Other lines which may
come from Fairbanks, due at Dawson,
